ButtonWhat is Anxiety?
Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress. Its that foreboding feeling of fear and apprehension about what’s to come. Think about that feeling you get right before a presentation, a test, or an interview. Are you just pumped and ready to go - or are you nervous - suddenly doubting your abilities and wishing that you were any place else? The latter is anxiety. Even if you do not identify with those exact feelings, it is the presence of negative emotions that can help you to identify when you might be feeling anxious.
"If your feelings of anxiety are extreme, last for at least 6 months, and are interfering with your life, you may have an anxiety disorder."
Anxiety DisordersWhat Does Anxiety Feel Like?
Anxiety feels different depending on the person experiencing it. Feelings can range from butterflies in your tummy and a racing heart to the feeling that the walls are closing in and literally all of your internal organs are going to f*cking explode.
You may have a general feeling of fear and worry, or you might fear a specific place or event. In some cases, you could experience a panic attack.
You might feel out of control like there’s a disconnect between your mind and body. This is called disassociation - many people describe it as feeling high or like you are in a dream.
Remember, your anxiety symptoms might be different from someone else’s.
